LiftMaster Gate Operator Repair — Full Service Call
0:44Filmed on the job by Shield Gate Repair
What this video shows
A complete LiftMaster gate operator repair from diagnosis to test cycle. The technician isolates the fault at the control board, replaces the failed component and runs the gate through full travel before leaving. Most LiftMaster faults are a board, a capacitor or a limit switch — not the whole operator.
The fault
- The gate had stopped moving entirely. Power was reaching the unit and the motor could be heard humming when a command was given, but nothing moved.
How it was diagnosed
- Confirmed supply voltage at the board — normal.
- Moved the gate by hand with the operator released — free through full travel, ruling out a mechanical bind.
- Tested the run capacitor under load. It was reading well below its rated value, which is exactly the condition that produces a motor that hums and will not break away from standstill.
The fix
- Replaced the capacitor with a correctly rated part and ran the gate through several full cycles to confirm the fix held warm.
A humming motor is the most commonly misdiagnosed symptom in gate repair. It points at the capacitor far more often than the motor — and a capacitor costs a tiny fraction of the operator that frequently gets quoted for it. If you are told a humming gate needs a new operator, get a second opinion.
