Gate Motor Repair in University Park: what we see
Motors on University Park gates fail in two ways. On older operators around Volk Estates the motor and gearbox have simply run for a long time, and bearings, gears and capacitors wear. On newer installs the motor is often fine but overworked: an operator chosen for a lighter leaf than the heavy iron it ended up carrying, or a gate that has settled and binds, makes the motor draw more current, run hotter and trip its thermal cutout. That second case is a gate or sizing problem showing up as a motor problem.
Our sequence is to move the gate by hand to rule out mechanical drag, then check the capacitor on AC motors, the motor current and windings, the thermal cutout and the gearbox for wear or stripped teeth. A failed capacitor is a quick fix, a worn gearbox can sometimes be rebuilt, and a burnt motor on an old operator is where replacing the operator may make more sense. We repair gate motors off Preston Road, Lovers Lane and in Caruth Hills.

Gate Motor Repair in University Park: questions
My gate motor hums but the gate does not move. What failed?
A humming motor that will not turn is very often a failed start capacitor on an AC operator, or a gearbox whose teeth have stripped so the motor spins without driving the gate. It can also be a gate jammed so hard the motor cannot start it. We release the gate, check it by hand, then test the capacitor and gearbox in turn.
Why does my gate motor quit after a few cycles in a row?
That is the thermal cutout doing its job. When a motor runs hot, from a binding gate, an undersized operator or heavy use, it shuts down until it cools. Replacing the cutout or the motor does not solve it. We find out what is loading the motor, correct that, and then confirm the motor current is back where it should be.
