Our yard gate keeps getting hit by delivery vehicles. Is there anything that helps?
Yes, and it is usually geometry rather than a stronger gate. Moving the operator out of the swept path, adding protective bollards, and in some cases changing from a swing to a slide so nothing projects into the manoeuvring area will end a cycle of damage that no amount of repair will. We would rather look at where the trucks actually turn than keep straightening the same leaf.
The gate binds at one spot since it was hit. Does the whole thing need replacing?
Usually not. A frame knocked a few degrees out of square binds at a predictable point, and re-squaring it and replacing the hinge that took the impact normally restores it. What we will check is whether the operator was strained while being asked to force the gate through that bind, because that damage is less visible and shows up later.
